KFC Holiday Hours: Opening and Closing Times for Every Major Holiday
Quick Answer: KFC holiday hours vary because individual franchise owners set their restaurant schedules. Almost all KFC locations are closed on Thanksgiving, and most are closed on Christmas Day. Most restaurants remain open on Easter with regular Sunday hours, while Christmas Eve locations commonly close between 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM. Always check your local restaurant before visiting.
KFC restaurants operate on different schedules depending on their location, franchise ownership, and local operating conditions. Although most US locations follow similar weekly opening and closing times, major holidays can affect their regular schedules.
Thanksgiving and Christmas are the two major holidays when KFC restaurants are most likely to close. However, the chain generally remains open on Easter, New Year’s Day, Independence Day, and several other federal holidays.
This guide covers KFC holiday hours, regular weekly opening and closing times, drive-thru schedules, and holiday operating patterns. You will also find information about KFC hours in 25 major US cities and how to check whether your nearest restaurant is open.
KFC Regular Hours: Opening and Closing Times
Most KFC restaurants in the United States open at approximately 10:30 AM. From Monday through Thursday, the typical closing time is 10:00 PM. On Friday and Saturday, many locations stay open until 11:00 PM, while Sunday hours are generally shorter.
The following table summarizes the typical weekly KFC operating schedule:
| Day | Typical Opening Time | Typical Closing Time |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 10:30 AM | 10:00 PM |
| Tuesday | 10:30 AM | 10:00 PM |
| Wednesday | 10:30 AM | 10:00 PM |
| Thursday | 10:30 AM | 10:00 PM |
| Friday | 10:30 AM | 11:00 PM |
| Saturday | 10:30 AM | 11:00 PM |
| Sunday | 11:00 AM | 10:00 PM |
These are typical operating hours, not guaranteed schedules for every restaurant. Most locations operate within this range, but individual franchise schedules can differ.
Does KFC serve breakfast? Standard KFC restaurants in the United States do not serve breakfast. There is no nationwide US KFC breakfast menu, and the regular menu becomes available at opening, typically around 10:30 AM.
Are KFC Drive-Thru Hours Different From Lobby Hours?
Yes. KFC drive-thru hours can extend beyond the dining room’s operating schedule. Some locations keep the drive-thru open after the lobby closes.
On Friday and Saturday, the drive-thru frequently stays open approximately one hour longer than the lobby.
If you plan to visit late at night, check the specific drive-thru and lobby hours rather than assuming they close at the same time.
KFC Holiday Hours: What to Expect
KFC holiday hours are determined by individual franchise owners rather than a single nationwide corporate holiday schedule. This means restaurants in the same city can have different operating times on the same holiday.
Nevertheless, there are consistent patterns across US locations. Almost all KFC restaurants close on Thanksgiving, and most close on Christmas Day. Christmas Eve usually brings reduced hours, while Easter is generally a normal operating day for most restaurants.
For other major holidays, including New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, and Independence Day, most locations remain open with regular or near-regular hours.
KFC Holiday Hours by Major Holiday
The following table provides a quick reference for KFC holiday opening and closing schedules. These patterns reflect typical US restaurant operations, not guaranteed hours for every franchise.
| Holiday | Typical Status | Expected Operating Hours |
|---|---|---|
| New Year’s Day | Open | Regular hours |
| Martin Luther King Jr. Day | Open | Regular hours |
| Presidents Day | Open | Regular hours |
| Easter Sunday | Open at most locations | Regular Sunday hours |
| Memorial Day | Open | Regular hours |
| Independence Day (July 4th) | Open | Regular hours |
| Labor Day | Open | Regular hours |
| Halloween | Open | Regular hours |
| Veterans Day | Open | Regular hours |
| Thanksgiving Day | Closed at almost all locations | Most restaurants do not operate |
| Christmas Eve | Open with reduced hours | Many close around 6:00 PM–8:00 PM |
| Christmas Day | Closed at most locations | Some airport locations may have limited hours |
| New Year’s Eve | Open | Regular hours or early closing |
Is KFC Open on Thanksgiving?
No, almost all KFC restaurants in the United States are closed on Thanksgiving Day. This is one of the two major holidays when most locations do not operate.
KFC Thanksgiving hours are not governed by a universal corporate schedule. Individual franchise owners decide whether to open, and almost all choose to close for Thanksgiving.
If you are comparing holiday schedules at other chicken restaurants, you can also check our Popeyes holiday hours guide. Holiday opening policies differ between restaurant chains, so it is worth checking each location separately.
Is KFC Open on Christmas Day?
Most KFC restaurants are closed on Christmas Day. However, some airport locations may remain open for limited hours, depending on their franchise arrangements and the operating schedule of the surrounding facility.
KFC Christmas hours are therefore different from ordinary weekly schedules. Even if your local restaurant normally opens at 10:30 AM and closes at 10:00 PM, those hours should not be assumed to apply on December 25.
Check the restaurant’s holiday listing or call ahead if you are considering visiting a location on Christmas Day.
KFC Christmas Eve Hours
Most KFC restaurants open on Christmas Eve but operate with reduced hours. Many locations close between approximately 6:00 PM and 8:00 PM instead of following their usual evening schedule.
For example, a restaurant that normally closes at 10:00 PM may finish operating earlier on December 24. The exact closing time depends on the franchise owner, so check the local schedule before planning a late visit.
Remember that drive-thru and lobby closing times may differ. Confirm which service is available if you expect to arrive near the end of the operating day.
Is KFC Open on Easter Sunday?
Yes, most KFC restaurants are open on Easter Sunday and generally follow their regular Sunday operating schedule.
This is an important distinction when checking KFC Easter hours. Unlike Thanksgiving and Christmas, Easter is not a widespread closure day for KFC.
Check your nearest restaurant to confirm its Sunday opening and closing times before visiting.
KFC New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve Hours
Most KFC restaurants are open on New Year’s Day. Locations generally follow their regular operating schedule, although some may open later or adjust hours.
KFC New Year’s Eve hours are also generally normal, but some restaurants close earlier than usual. If you plan to visit in the evening, confirm the closing time in advance.
KFC Hours on Other Major Holidays
Most KFC locations remain open on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Halloween, and Veterans Day. These holidays generally follow regular operating hours rather than special closure schedules.

How to Check KFC Holiday Hours Near You
The best way to find accurate KFC holiday hours near you is to check the specific restaurant you plan to visit. Hours can differ between locations, even within the same city.
1. Use the Official KFC Restaurant Locator
Visit the official KFC restaurant locator to find nearby restaurants. Search by city, ZIP code, or location and select the restaurant you want to visit.
The location listing can help you identify its address and regular operating hours. Use it as your starting point, then confirm holiday hours separately.
2. Check the KFC App
The KFC app can help you identify participating restaurants and review available ordering times. It is a useful tool for finding a nearby location.
However, app availability does not always confirm that the dining room is open. Digital ordering may be paused even when the restaurant is open, or vice versa.
3. Call Your Local Restaurant
Calling the restaurant directly is a reliable way to confirm its holiday schedule. Ask whether it will be open on the holiday you plan to visit, and what time it will close.
This is particularly useful for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day. You can also ask whether the drive-thru will remain open after the lobby closes.
4. Understand Why Nearby Locations Have Different Hours
Two KFC restaurants in the same city may operate on different schedules because they are independently owned and operated. Each franchise owner sets the hours for that location.
Location type can also make a difference. A restaurant inside an airport or another facility may follow the host property’s schedule, while a standalone restaurant follows its own hours.
Does KFC Delivery Follow Holiday Hours?
KFC delivery hours do not always match the restaurant’s actual operating hours. A location may be open for walk-in or drive-thru customers while delivery is paused or limited.
Delivery can be paused or limited because of local operating decisions, staffing, or service availability. Keep these differences in mind when checking holiday availability:
- Restaurant hours: These indicate when the physical KFC location is scheduled to operate.
- Lobby hours: These indicate when customers can enter the dining area.
- Drive-thru hours: These may extend beyond the lobby’s closing time.
- Delivery hours: These depend on the restaurant and delivery service’s availability.
During holidays, delivery may become unavailable before the restaurant closes. Therefore, do not rely only on delivery-app hours to determine whether a restaurant is open.
Best Time to Visit KFC During the Holidays
The best time to visit KFC during a holiday depends on the restaurant’s operating schedule. On regular holidays, normal hours usually apply, but early-close days require extra planning.
Consider these practical guidelines:
- On Christmas Eve: Visit well before the expected early closing window of 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
- On Thanksgiving: Expect almost all locations to be closed rather than assuming reduced hours.
- On Christmas Day: Confirm that an exceptional location is actually operating before traveling.
- On Easter: Check the normal Sunday schedule because most locations are open.
- On New Year’s Eve: Confirm the closing time if you plan to visit in the evening.
There is no single best visiting time for every KFC restaurant. Checking the local schedule is more reliable than assuming a national pattern.
Tips for Ordering KFC on a Holiday
Holiday operating schedules can affect when a restaurant accepts orders. Even if a KFC location is technically open, ordering availability may end earlier than the posted closing time.
Check Order Cutoff Times
On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, restaurants that close early may also stop accepting orders before the closing time. Check the cutoff time if you plan to order late in the day.
Confirm Lobby and Drive-Thru Availability
Do not assume that the lobby and drive-thru have identical holiday schedules. Some locations keep the drive-thru open after the lobby closes.
Do Not Depend Only on Online Availability
An unavailable ordering option does not necessarily mean the restaurant is closed. Likewise, an app showing availability does not guarantee that the dining room is open.
Check the location directly when holiday schedules are uncertain, especially if you plan to visit close to closing time.
