Subway Holiday Hours: Opening and Closing Times for Every Major Holiday
Quick Answer: Subway holiday hours depend on the individual restaurant because locations are independently owned and operated. Most Subway restaurants are closed on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Many open with reduced hours on Christmas Eve, while Easter hours vary. Most locations remain open on other major holidays, including New Year’s Day and Independence Day. Always confirm your local store’s schedule before visiting.
Subway restaurants operate on different schedules throughout the United States, and holiday hours can change depending on the location. While many stores follow similar weekly opening and closing times, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Easter, and other major holidays can affect their schedules.
Unlike restaurant chains with a centralized operating schedule, Subway allows individual franchise owners to determine their restaurant’s operating hours. This means one location may close for a holiday while another nearby restaurant remains open with reduced hours.
This guide covers typical Subway holiday hours, regular opening and closing times, a holiday-by-holiday schedule, and the best ways to check your nearest restaurant. It also includes typical hours across 25 major US cities.
Subway Regular Hours: Opening and Closing Times
Most Subway restaurants open between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM and close around 10:00 PM from Monday through Saturday. Sunday hours are often shorter, with many locations opening between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM and closing between 9:00 PM and 10:00 PM.
These are typical operating patterns rather than guaranteed hours. Some restaurants open later, close earlier, or operate extended schedules depending on the area and type of location.
| Day | Typical Opening Time | Typical Closing Time |
|---|---|---|
| Monday | 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM | 10:00 PM |
| Tuesday | 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM | 10:00 PM |
| Wednesday | 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM | 10:00 PM |
| Thursday | 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM | 10:00 PM |
| Friday | 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM | 10:00 PM |
| Saturday | 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM | 10:00 PM |
| Sunday | 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM | 9:00 PM – 10:00 PM |
Important: Some Subway restaurants close as early as 9:00 PM, while others stay open until midnight. Airport, hospital, and travel-plaza locations may have extended hours, while mall and campus locations may close earlier.
For example, sampled official restaurant listings include a Sedona, Arizona, location operating from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM daily, a New York City location at 214 W 50th St operating from 8:00 AM to midnight Monday through Saturday and until 11:00 PM on Sunday, and Los Angeles locations opening at 7:00 AM on weekdays.
These examples demonstrate why checking the specific restaurant matters more than relying on a national schedule.
Subway Holiday Hours by Major Holiday
Subway holiday hours vary because individual franchise owners determine whether their restaurants open, close, or operate with reduced hours. The table below summarizes typical patterns across major US holidays.
Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day are the two major holidays when most Subway restaurants close. Christmas Eve usually has reduced hours, while most other holidays follow regular or near-regular schedules.
| Holiday | Typical Status | Expected Hours |
|---|---|---|
| New Year’s Day | Usually Open | Regular hours or a later opening |
| Martin Luther King Jr. Day | Open | Regular or near-regular hours |
| Presidents Day | Open | Regular or near-regular hours |
| Good Friday | Open | Regular hours at most locations |
| Easter Sunday | Varies | Reduced hours or closed |
| Memorial Day | Open | Regular or near-regular hours |
| Independence Day (July 4th) | Open | Regular or near-regular hours |
| Labor Day | Open | Regular or near-regular hours |
| Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day | Open | Regular or near-regular hours |
| Veterans Day | Open | Regular or near-regular hours |
| Thanksgiving Day | Most Locations Closed | Exceptions may operate limited or regular hours |
| Christmas Eve | Usually Open | Reduced hours; many close around 6:00 PM–8:00 PM |
| Christmas Day | Most Locations Closed | Exceptions may operate limited or regular hours |
| New Year’s Eve | Usually Open | Regular hours or early closing |
The schedules above describe typical patterns, not guaranteed operating times. Highway, airport, and 24-hour locations may remain open on holidays when most other restaurants close.
Is Subway Open on Thanksgiving?
Most Subway restaurants are closed on Thanksgiving Day. This is one of the two major holidays when the majority of locations typically shut down. However, some highway, airport, and 24-hour restaurants may remain open, depending on their franchise owner’s decision.
Subway Thanksgiving hours are not controlled by one nationwide schedule. If you need to visit a restaurant on Thanksgiving, check its individual holiday listing and call ahead to confirm that it is accepting customers.
Subway Christmas Hours
Most Subway locations are closed on Christmas Day, allowing franchise owners and employees to observe the holiday. A small number of restaurants in travel centers, airports, and other high-traffic locations may remain open.
Christmas Eve is different. Most locations that observe Christmas Day closures remain open on December 24, although many shorten their operating schedules and close around 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Do not assume that a restaurant’s regular 10:00 PM closing time applies on Christmas Eve. Check the local schedule before visiting.
Is Subway Open on Easter Sunday?
Subway Easter hours genuinely vary by restaurant. Many locations open on Easter Sunday with reduced hours, while others close for the entire day. Because Easter is a major holiday, it is one of the most unpredictable days in the Subway holiday schedule.
Because Easter falls on a Sunday, some restaurants may also follow their already-shorter Sunday schedule. This can mean a later opening, an earlier closing, or both. Check the specific location’s Easter hours before visiting, rather than assuming it follows its normal Sunday schedule.
Subway New Year’s Day and New Year’s Eve Hours
Most Subway restaurants are open on New Year’s Day, although some franchise owners choose to open later than usual. If you plan to visit in the morning, check whether your local store has a delayed opening.
Subway New Year’s Eve hours are generally closer to normal operating schedules. However, some locations close earlier than usual to allow staff to prepare for New Year’s Day celebrations.
Subway Hours on Other Federal Holidays
Most Subway restaurants remain open on holidays such as Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Presidents Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day / Indigenous Peoples’ Day, and Veterans Day. These holidays do not usually cause widespread closures.
These holidays generally follow regular or near-regular schedules. Good Friday is also a normal operating day at most locations, with regular hours and no major schedule changes.
If you are checking holiday schedules at other fast-food restaurants, you can also compare our KFC holiday hours and Popeyes holiday hours guides. Each chain has its own holiday operating patterns, so do not assume that all restaurants follow the same holiday schedule.
How to Check Your Local Subway Holiday Hours
The most reliable way to find accurate Subway holiday hours is to check the specific restaurant you plan to visit. Hours can differ between locations, even within the same city.
Use these methods to confirm the opening and closing times:
1. Use the Official Subway Restaurant Finder
Start with the official Subway restaurant finder. Enter your city, ZIP code, or location to find nearby restaurants. Select the specific store to review its hours and contact information.
Official restaurant pages are a useful starting point because they provide location-specific hours instead of a generic national schedule.
2. Check the Subway App
The Subway app can help you find nearby participating restaurants and review their available operating hours and ordering options.
However, app availability does not always match actual in-store operating hours. A restaurant may temporarily pause online ordering even while it remains open for walk-in customers.
3. Check Google Business Listings
Google listings can provide quick information about whether a Subway restaurant is open, its regular hours, and any special holiday hours.
However, Google information may occasionally be outdated or different from the restaurant’s actual schedule, particularly during holidays. If Google and the official store page disagree, contact the restaurant directly.
4. Call the Restaurant Directly
Calling the specific Subway location is one of the safest ways to confirm its holiday schedule. Ask about the opening and closing times for the specific holiday you plan to visit.
This is especially helpful for Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and Easter Sunday, when restaurant hours are most likely to vary.
5. Check Holiday Hours in Advance
Try to verify the schedule several days before a major holiday. Checking early gives you time to find an alternative location if your preferred store is closed.
It is also worth checking again on the day of your visit. A posted schedule can change because of staffing, weather, or local conditions.
Tips for Visiting Subway During the Holidays
A little preparation can help you avoid arriving at a closed restaurant or missing its reduced operating window.
Visit Earlier on Reduced-Hour Holidays
On Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, some Subway locations close earlier than usual. Visiting earlier in the day gives you more flexibility if the schedule has changed.
For Christmas Eve, pay particular attention to the common early closing window of approximately 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM.
Pay Attention to the Restaurant’s Location Type
Not every Subway restaurant operates independently from the building around it. Locations inside malls, airports, hospitals, gas stations, and college campuses often follow the host property’s schedule.
For example, a Subway inside a shopping mall may close when the mall closes, even if standalone Subway restaurants remain open.
These differences are especially important during Thanksgiving and Christmas, when the host property may have reduced hours or be closed.
Check Before Relying on Delivery
Delivery availability can differ from in-store operating hours. A restaurant may be open for walk-in customers but unavailable for delivery, or vice versa.
Check the restaurant’s available ordering options before depending on delivery during a holiday. If delivery is unavailable, consider visiting the restaurant in person or choosing another location.
Remember That App Hours and Store Hours Can Differ
Online ordering hours are not always identical to the hours displayed on a restaurant’s entrance or listed on its official page.
If the app shows that a location is unavailable, do not automatically assume that the restaurant is closed. It may still be open for walk-in customers.
Account for Shorter Breakfast Service
Breakfast is a morning-only service at participating Subway restaurants, not a chainwide all-day service.
If you plan to visit during the morning, check both the restaurant’s opening time and whether it is serving breakfast that day. A later holiday opening can shorten the breakfast window.
Subway Hours Near You
Looking for Subway hours near you? Local operating times depend on the individual restaurant, so nearby locations may have different opening and closing times.
After finding a nearby restaurant, check its individual operating schedule before leaving. Pay particular attention to holiday hours, reduced schedules, and location-specific closing times.

These city references should not replace checking an individual restaurant. A Subway in a downtown business district, airport, or mall may have different hours from a standalone neighborhood location.
If you are checking Subway hours today before heading out, a quick look at your local store’s listing answers the common question — is Subway open today? On normal days and most holidays, yes. The same check settles two other frequent searches: Subway Christmas Eve hours are reduced at most locations, with many closing around 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and is Subway open on July 4th? Yes — Independence Day usually follows regular or near-regular hours at most restaurants.
